// THE STORY

Lourens Breytenbach has spent more than three decades in classrooms — teaching, observing, and becoming progressively frustrated with the same problem: students work hard, but they study wrong. Rereading. Highlighting. Cramming. Methods that feel productive but produce nothing durable.

The research on this is not ambiguous. Hermann Ebbinghaus mapped the forgetting curve in 1885. Roediger and Karpicke confirmed the testing effect in 2006. Spaced repetition has been validated in hundreds of controlled studies. The science exists. It just doesn't reach the students.

ShiftGlitch is the answer to that gap. A platform that takes thirty years of classroom experience, layers it on top of peer-reviewed learning science, and wraps it in a cyberpunk aesthetic because — frankly — if you're going to spend hours studying, the environment should at least be interesting.

Alongside teaching, Lourens has built and launched multiple digital products across education, productivity, and entrepreneurship. ShiftGlitch is the flagship — but it is part of a broader mission to put genuinely useful tools into the hands of people who are trying to build something worth building, whether that's a career, a business, or a deep understanding of a subject.

Lourens holds an Honours degree in Educational Management and brings a discipline-based, evidence-first approach to everything he builds. All content on ShiftGlitch is grounded in peer-reviewed cognitive science research, not opinion, trend, or influencer consensus.
